Kids, Cookies, and Frosting (lots and lots of frosting)

One of the cookie decorating tables

Today we held our 2nd Annual "Wicked Kids Creations" Cookie decorating event. This was something we came up with last year when we decided we wanted to create an event where children could come and decorate cookies and Christmas cards that we would then donate to a charity or organization. We put the word out on Facebook and had 20 children register. The VFW in Union allowed us to use their back room. It turned out to be a great time and we knew we wanted to continue this and make it a yearly tradition.
This year we made it bigger and better. The VFW agreed to let us use the cantina so we could accommodate a lot more children. We ended up with 40! We baked 17 dozen sugar cookies and made pounds and pounds of icing and had it ready for the children's arrival. Tables were set up for cookie and card decorating and the kids were given freedom to decorate however they wanted.

Santa Arrives

Thanks to a friend with a connection to the North Pole, we managed to get Santa to pay us a visit and pass out presents. Seeing the look on some of the kids faces when he walked in the door was priceless. Santa took the time to sit with every child and listen to their wish list.
We had so much fun with all the great kids and their parents. It is a lot of work to prepare for this, but when it is over we never regret a second of it. Seeing this all come together brings us a lot of joy and makes us already start to think about how we can make it better next year.
Special thanks to the VFW Post #5434 and the Ladies Auxiliary, plus all of our volunteers: Libby and Dave Glade, Sarah Newburg, Melissa Emmons, Angie and Bradley LaFeir, and our daughter Cassady.
